Definition

A tour package that covers everything on the ground, typically hotels, airport transfers, sightseeing and some meals, but not flights. You book the air tickets yourself, or ask the agent to add them.

Why book land-only

  • You want to use airline miles or a fare sale.
  • You're flying from a city the package doesn't start from, such as Lucknow or Coimbatore.
  • You want particular flight times, for example to avoid a red-eye with young children.
  • You're joining a group tour from another country.

What land prices look like

TripLand only, per person from
Dubai, 4 nights₹22,000
Thailand, 5 nights₹20,000
Kashmir, 5 nights₹17,000
Kerala, 5 nights₹19,000

These are starting prices, twin sharing, at 3-star to 4-star hotels, and they move with season and hotel choice. Add return flights and the Dubai package rises to about ₹42,000 per person.

What's usually in and out

  • In: hotel nights, airport transfers (SIC or private), listed sightseeing and the stated meal plan.
  • Out: flights, visa, travel insurance, local taxes such as Dubai's Tourism Dirham or European city taxes, lunches unless stated, tips and personal spending.

Things to get right

  1. Send your flight details as soon as you book them. Transfers are timed to your arrival, and a missed pickup is rarely refunded.
  2. If your flight is delayed, call the local DMC number on your voucher before you land, not after.
  3. Overseas land packages attract 5% GST and, from 1 April 2026, 2% TCS, which you can claim against your income tax.
