Definition
A trip built for one person, a couple, a family or a small group on their own dates and route, rather than a seat on a scheduled group tour. In package quotes, FIT means arrangements priced individually for your party.
FIT, GIT and fixed departures
The travel trade sorts holidays into two kinds. An FIT (also expanded as free or foreign independent tour) is built around your party. A [GIT](/glossary/git) is a group travelling together on the same dates. A fixed departure is a GIT that individuals join.
An example
A Delhi couple wants six nights in Bali in late September: three in Ubud, three in Seminyak, a private car on two days and an easy pace. That's an FIT. It starts at about ₹32,000 per person, twin sharing, land only, at 3-star to 4-star hotels, and every detail, from the hotels to the day they visit Nusa Penida, is their choice.
FIT or group tour?
| An FIT suits you if | A group tour suits you if |
|---|---|
| You want your own dates and pace | You'd rather not make decisions |
| You travel with seniors who need rest days | You want an Indian tour manager throughout |
| You're honeymooning or a repeat traveller | You're travelling alone and want company |
| You want specific hotels or areas | You want Indian meals arranged daily |
The trade-offs
FITs cost more per person for small parties, mainly because transfers and guides aren't shared. You can bring the price down with SIC transfers on some legs. You also make more of the decisions, though a good agent and a reliable DMC at the destination handle the groundwork.
Ask us to quote any of our tour packages as an FIT on your own dates, or as a land package if you'd rather book flights yourself.
