When to travel

December to February is summer — warmest, longest days and busiest. March to May brings autumn colour around Wanaka and Arrowtown with fewer people. June to August is ski season in Queenstown but many South Island roads and activities are weather-affected. September to November is spring, quiet and green, with lambing across the countryside.

Entry and paperwork

Indian passport holders require a Visitor Visa applied for online in advance, with financial evidence, an itinerary and proof of onward travel. Processing can take several weeks in busy periods. If you plan to drive, an International Driving Permit alongside your Indian licence is required.
