A Schengen refusal costs you the fee, the appointment slot and often the trip. Having prepared a great many of these files, we can tell you that the overwhelming majority of refusals trace back to four things — all of them fixable before submission.
1. Financial evidence that raises questions
Consulates are not looking for a large balance. They are looking for a believable one. A statement showing a sudden deposit two weeks before applying does the opposite of reassuring them.
Submit six months of statements showing normal income and normal spending. If a large credit is genuine — a property sale, a bonus, a maturity — document it. If someone else is funding the trip, say so explicitly and include their documents and a sponsorship letter rather than hoping nobody asks.
2. An itinerary that does not match the bookings
If your covering letter says four nights in Paris and your hotel booking shows three, the file has contradicted itself. Consulates check this. So do the flight dates, the internal train tickets and the hotel cities.
Every document must tell the same story. This is where using an agent who prepares the whole file rather than handing you a checklist genuinely helps.
3. Weak evidence of ties to India
The unstated question behind every tourist visa is whether you intend to come back. Employment with approved leave, a business with filed returns, property documents, family dependents and a history of returning from previous trips all answer it.
First-time travellers with no visa history are not refused for that reason alone, but they need the rest of the file to be tighter.
4. Applying too late
Appointment availability collapses from around March onwards. Travellers who start eight weeks out often find the first slot is after their intended departure. Start ten weeks ahead. If you cannot, be honest with yourself about whether the trip is realistic.
Which consulate should you apply to?
The country where you will spend the most nights. If the nights are equal, the country you enter first. Applying to the "easier" consulate for a trip you are not actually spending most of your time in is both incorrect and easily spotted.
Insurance is mandatory
A policy with minimum 30,000 euro medical cover valid across the Schengen area is a hard requirement, not a suggestion. It must cover your entire stay.
If you are refused
Read the refusal letter. It carries a code indicating the ground. Reapplying with the same file will produce the same result. Fix what was objected to, or appeal within the stated window if you believe the decision was wrong.
Our documentation desk prepares and reviews the complete file for Schengen and other destinations. We cannot guarantee a visa — nobody honestly can — but we can make sure the consulate has no easy reason to refuse. Call +91 8585 996 996 to discuss your application.
